Make a page

Steps for making a new page

  1. Log in to see the "Root folder content" item in the menu and click that item (link)
  2. Locate the "Add item" link to add a page. Fill out the form:
    1. Content type determines the kind of page you get, for this tutorial let's start out with Page
    2. Name is the name as it appears in the URL
    3. Title is what appears in the menu
    4. Long title is what appears as the title of the page
    5. Check the boxes for "Everyone can view" and "Show in menu"
  3. After clicking "Save" you are back in the "Root folder content" screen and you will see the new page showing up in the menu
  4. Click on the link in the menu and you will see the page without any content, click the "Edit" link and a little word processor comes up. Type some text and save: the result is your first page
  5. As you will see it is still in "draft" mode, meaning you will see this but not every other viewer. Clicking on "Publish" will make it visible for everyone who is allowed to see this page.

Note: there are restrictions to the name you can give to a page. A name cannot contain the names of methods that are used to provide functionality. For instance 'edit_item' and 'view_item' are the names of methods so these words cannot be part of a page name. However if you avoid unsderscores in your page names there are no restictions since all method names have an underscore.

Using images on you page

To use an image you need to upload that image first, using the "Upload Image" link on the "Edit" page. After that you can click on the icon for "insert/edit image" in the word processor on the edit page and select the image from the list in the window that pops up.
